Want to ride new places? Want to be independent and confident you can go further and sort your bike should anything happen to it? This is the course for you.

You can ride a bike many places – road, cycle paths, gravel tracks, bridleways – there are loads of great routes and infrastructure to ride on nowadays. It’s a great way to keep fit and take in some great scenery.

We start by setting you up with your bike, checking it, making sure it is set up right for you and the principles of making adjustments to suit you. We will also go through essentials to carry with you on a ride. Then we will learn skills to help you with everything you might need on a ride:

  • Road riding – you will learn skills that give you confidence and make you safer while riding on roads
  • Unpaved riding – you will tackle different surfaces such as gravel and grass  and learn how to corner and ride over small obstacles, like kerbs
  • Trailside maintenance – skills to help get you home, like fixing a puncture, mending your chain and 1,000,001 (approximately!) ways to use a zip tie!
  • Where to ride – we will cover where you can ride and how to choose a route that suits you

This is a practical course and most of the teaching will be done as part of a ride we do, learning as you go. You can use any bike, but bear in mind it won’t all be tarmac, so slick tyres should be avoided if you can.
