Get Riding Anywhere Course – Gravel
Duration: 1 day Cost: £100 (discounts available for members of cycling clubs) Variations available: Mixed groups, ladies only or kids
Want to ride new places and terrain with confidence? Want to be independent and confident you can go further and sort your bike should anything happen to it? This is the course for you.
Gravel riding involves a bit of everything – road, gravel tracks, byways, bridleways – anywhere you might want to ride your bike. There are lots of different styles of gravel bike and you can bring whatever you want – a gravel bike with drop bars, flat bars, a mountain bike or a hybrid with some non-slick tyres.
We start by setting you up with your bike, checking it, making sure it is set up right for you and the principles of making adjustments to suit you. We will also go through essentials to carry with you on a ride.
Body position is fundamental to how to get the most out of the effort you put into your bike. We will go through how to alter your position on the bike to help you tackle things like corners, uphills and downhills more easily.
We will learn skills to help you with everything you might need on a ride:
- Offroad riding – different surfaces, corners, riding over small obstacles, uphills and downhills
- Road riding – you will learn skills that give you confidence and make you safer while riding on roads
- Trailside maintenance – skills to help get you home, like fixing a puncture, mending your chain and 1,000,001 (approximately!) ways to use a zip tie!
We will also cover what to wear and take with you on a ride and will finish with a ride to practice it all.
